I visit your donkey every day

Whenever too much barley harms him.

And the pain of your coldness makes me ill,

Yet I have seen no one visit me in response to my sighs.

So if that is my rightful recompense from you

For the excess of love within my heart,

Then thanks be to love, since you have lowered

Friends, through it, below the rank of donkeys.
