إِنّيindeed I لَأَعجَبُI truly marvel مِنat تَعَقُّلِthe reasoning of جاهِلٍan ignorant man
أَمسىhe has become يَدُلُّhe boasts بِجاهِهِof his standing وَبِوَفرِهِand of his wealth
I truly marvel at an ignorant man's reasoning.
I wonder at the reason of an ignorant man
He has come to boast of his standing and his wealth.
Who boasts of his ignorance and abundance
أَمسىhe has become يَشَحُّhe is stingy بِمالِهِwith his money وَبِزادِهِand with his provisions
لَكِنbut يَجودُhe is generous بِعَرضِهِwith his honor وَبِذِكرِهِand with his reputation
He has grown stingy with his money and his provisions.
He is miserly with his money and provisions
Yet he is lavish with his honor and his good name.
Yet generous with his dignity and reputation
وَتَراهُand you see him يَحسُبُhe counts ماwhat بَقيremains مِنof مالِهِhis money
فَنَراهُso we see him يَعلَمُhe knows ماwhat بَقيremains مِنof عُمرِهhis life
And you see him counting how much of his money remains.
He counts what is left of his money
So we see that he knows how much of his life remains.
But does not know what is left of his life
