سَأُمسِكُI shall refrain عَنfrom جَوابِكَanswering you لاnot لَعَيِّfor lack of eloquence
سَأُمسِكُ عَن جَوابِكَ لا لَعَيِّ
وَرَبُّand the master of الأَمرِthe affair مَمنوعُbarred الجَوابِthe reply
وَرَبُّ الأَمرِ مَمنوعُ الجَوابِ
I shall refrain from answering you, not for lack of eloquence.
I will withhold my answer, not out of stubbornness,
And the master of the affair is barred from replying.
But the Lord of all forbids me to respond.
وَلَوand if أَنّيthat I أَمِنتُI was safe وَقُلتُand I spoke عَدلاًjustly
وَلَو أَنّي أَمِنتُ وَقُلتُ عَدلاً
رَأَيتُI would find الخَطبَthe calamity أَهوَنَless grievous مِنthan خِطابيmy speech
رَأَيتُ الخَطبَ أَهوَنَ مِن خِطابي
And if I were safe and spoke justly,
And if I felt safe and spoke with justice,
I would find the calamity less grievous than my speech.
I would see disaster easier than my speech.
