أَقولُI say لِسارٍto a night traveler يَطلُبُseeks الرِزقَsustenance ساقِياًwatering
أَقولُ لِسارٍ يَطلُبُ الرِزقَ ساقِياً
سَوامَgrazing herds الأَمانيthe hopes مِنfrom حِياضِthe pools المَطامِعِthe ambitions
سَوامَ الأَماني مِن حِياضِ المَطامِعِ
I say to a night traveler seeking sustenance, watering
I say to one who seeks sustenance as a water-bearer
the grazing herds of hopes from the pools of ambition:
Drawing hopes from the wellspring of ambitions
هَلُمَّCome إِلىto رَبعِabode الجَوادِthe generous man الَّذيwhose بَدَتappeared
هَلُمَّ إِلى رَبعِ الجَوادِ الَّذي بَدَت
مَناقِبُهُhis virtues مِثلَlike النُجومِthe stars الطَوالِعِrising
مَناقِبُهُ مِثلَ النُجومِ الطَوالِعِ
“Come to the abode of the generous man, whose
Come to the abode of the generous one whose
virtues have appeared like the rising stars.”
Virtues appeared like the rising stars
وَرُبَّand many a دَليلٍguide ليfor me إِلَيهِto him أَجَبتُهُI answered him
وَرُبَّ دَليلٍ لي إِلَيهِ أَجَبتُهُ
كَفانيsufficed me دَليلاًas a guide ماwhat لَهُhe has مِنof صَنائِعِacts of kindness
كَفاني دَليلاً ما لَهُ مِن صَنائِعِ
And many a guide directing me to him I have answered:
And many a guide to him I answered
“His acts of kindness are guide enough for me.”
His guidance suffices me, such are his qualities
وَمُستَشفِعٍand one seeking intercession بيthrough me عِندَهُwith him قُلتُI said إِنَّهُindeed he is
وَمُستَشفِعٍ بي عِندَهُ قُلتُ إِنَّهُ
كَريمٌgenerous نَداهُhis bounty عِندَهُwith him خَيرُbest شافِعِintercessor
كَريمٌ نَداهُ عِندَهُ خَيرُ شافِعِ
And to one seeking my intercession with him, I said: “He is indeed
And an intercessor with him I said: Indeed he
generous; his bounty is the best intercessor with him.”
Is generous, his nobility with him is the best intercessor
