سَأَلتُكُم رَدَّ جَوابي فَكَم

سَأَلتُكُم رَدَّ جَوابي فَكَم

يَدٍ لَكُم مِن قَبلِها عِندي

يَدٍ لَكُم مِن قَبلِها عِندي

I asked you to send me a reply—for how many

I asked you to return my answer, so how many

favors of yours have I received before this!

Hands do you have with me before it

فَقَلَّدونا مِنَّةً وَاِعجَبوا

فَقَلَّدونا مِنَّةً وَاِعجَبوا

مِن سائِلٍ يَقنَعُ بِالرَدَّ

مِن سائِلٍ يَقنَعُ بِالرَدَّ

So bestow a favor upon us, and marvel

So they charged us with a favor and were amazed

at a petitioner content with a refusal.
