تَعَرَّضَ بي فَقُلتُ إِلَيكَ عَنّي

تَعَرَّضَ بي فَقُلتُ إِلَيكَ عَنّي

كَفاني فيكَ عَيشِيَ بِالتَمَني

كَفاني فيكَ عَيشِيَ بِالتَمَني

He approached me, and I said, "Keep away from me!"

He approached me so I said to him about myself

Living on wishes for you was enough for me.

It is enough for me to live for you in yearning

أَخافُ مِنَ اللِحاظِ عَليكَ حَتّى

أَخافُ مِنَ اللِحاظِ عَليكَ حَتّى

أُغارُ عَليكَ حينَ أَراكَ مِنّي

أُغارُ عَليكَ حينَ أَراكَ مِنّي

I fear for you because of glances, so much that

I fear the glances upon you to the point

I grow jealous over you, even of myself, when I see you.

That I become jealous of you when I see you away from me

أَلَم تَرَني إِذا أَرسَلتُ طَيفاً

أَلَم تَرَني إِذا أَرسَلتُ طَيفاً

وَزادَ عَليكَ خَوفي بَعدَ أَمني

وَزادَ عَليكَ خَوفي بَعدَ أَمني

Have you not seen me, when I sent a phantom,

Have you not seen me when I send an apparition

and my fear for you grew after I had felt secure,

And my fear of you increases after my tranquility

أُقَبِّلُ تُربَ مَسعاهُ بِطَرفي

أُقَبِّلُ تُربَ مَسعاهُ بِطَرفي

وَأَمحو إِثرَ وَطأَتِهِ بِجِفني

وَأَمحو إِثرَ وَطأَتِهِ بِجِفني

kissing the dust of its path with my gaze,

I kiss the dust of his tread with my eyelids

and wiping away the trace of its footfall with my eyelid?

And erase the trace of his step with my eyelids
