تَركُforgoing التَكَلُّفِaffectation فيماin what قَدalready خَدَمتُI rendered service بِهِwith it
تَركُ التَكَلُّفِ فيما قَد خَدَمتُ بِهِ
أَولىbetter مِنَthan المَطلِdelay وَالإِخلافِand breaking promises وَالمَلَلِand weariness
أَولى مِنَ المَطلِ وَالإِخلافِ وَالمَلَلِ
Forgoing affectation in what I have offered in service
Forsaking affectation in what I have served
Is better than delay, broken promises, and weariness.
Is better than boredom, failure, and ennui,
وَرُبَّand many a قائِلِspeaker of قَولٍwords قَصَّرَتrestrained يَدَهُhis hand
وَرُبَّ قائِلِ قَولٍ قَصَّرَت يَدَهُ
يَدُthe hand of الخُطوبِcalamities فَصَدَّتهُand so barred him عَنِfrom العَمَلِaction
يَدُ الخُطوبِ فَصَدَّتهُ عَنِ العَمَلِ
And many a speaker of words has had his hand restrained
And many a speaker whose hand fell short
By the hand of calamities, which then barred him from action.
In tribulations, which barred him from deeds
