فيon مَتنِthe back of أَدهَمَa black horse كَالظَلامِlike darkness مُحَجَّلِwhite-socked
And indeed, I go to the hunt at evening and in the morning,
On the back of a white-socked black horse, dark as night.
رامَsought الصَباحُdawn مِنَfrom الدُجىthe darkness اِستِنقاذَهُto rescue him
حَسَداًout of envy فَلَمbut did not يَظفَرgain بِغَيرِanything other than الأَرجُلِthe legs
Dawn sought to rescue him from the darkness,
Out of envy, but gained nothing save his legs.
فَكَأَنَّهُso he seemed صِبغُthe hue of الشَبيبَةِyouth هابَهُfeared him
وَخَطُflecking المَشيبِof gray hair فَجاءَهُso it came to him مِنfrom أَسفَلِbelow
So he seemed the hue of youth, feared
By the flecks of gray, which thus approached him from below.
