Ever since the lofty souls within us soared,

they have held the worth of our wealth and grazing herds cheap.

For ours are the root and the ever-growing branches.

It is our short, blood-dripping swords alone

that have made our dominion long-enduring.

How many a courtyard has flourished under our justice,

how many a king been overwhelmed by our bounty,

and how many a prince commanded by our command!

We are a people endowed with sound judgment in affairs,

and with clashing against foes from the middle of the letter lām.

How often have we blunted the edges of immense calamities

with a reed pen, a slender spear, or a keen sword.

    وَاِقتِسامُ الأَموالِ مِن وَقتِ سامِ

    Glory is ours, with no one to rival us in it;

ours the sharing out of riches since the age of Shem,

and the storming of terrors since the age of Ham.
