أَياO مَنyou who ضاعَwas wasted فيهِon whom نَفيسُthe precious part of عُمريmy life
وَصَبريand my patience بَينَbetween إِعراضٍrejection وَبَينِand parting
O you on whom my precious life was wasted,
And my patience, between rejection and parting.
أَراكَI see you مُمَثّلاًpictured بِسَوادِin the blackness of قَلبيmy heart
فَمَنwho, then لِيَfor me أَنthat يَراكَmay see you سَوادُthe dark pupil of عَينيmy eye
I see you pictured in the blackness of my heart;
Who, then, will grant me that my eye’s dark pupil may see you?
