أَصَمَّ اللَهُ أَسمَعَنا المَلاما

أَصَمَّ اللَهُ أَسمَعَنا المَلاما

وَقَصَّرَ عُمرَ أَطوَلِنا مَطالا

وَقَصَّرَ عُمرَ أَطوَلِنا مَطالا

May God deafen whoever among us listens most to reproach,

And shorten the life of whoever among us delays the longest,

وَأَعمى طَرفَ أَعذَرِنا لِحاظاً

وَأَعمى طَرفَ أَعذَرِنا لِحاظاً

وَعَجَّلَ حَتفَ أَسرَعِنا مَلالا

وَعَجَّلَ حَتفَ أَسرَعِنا مَلالا

And blind the eyes of whoever among us is most excusable in his glances,

And hasten the death of whoever among us tires the soonest,

وَهَدَّ جَنانَ أَثبَتِنا جَناناً

وَهَدَّ جَنانَ أَثبَتِنا جَناناً

إِذا عَزَمَت أَحِبَّتُنا اِرتِحالا

إِذا عَزَمَت أَحِبَّتُنا اِرتِحالا

And shatter the heart of the most steadfast-hearted among us,

When our loved ones resolve to depart,

وَأَرغَدَنا عَلى التَفريقِ عَيشاً

وَأَرغَدَنا عَلى التَفريقِ عَيشاً

وَأَحسَنَنا لِفَقدِ الإِلفِ حالا

وَأَحسَنَنا لِفَقدِ الإِلفِ حالا

And whoever among us lives most at ease in separation,

And whoever among us fares best at the loss of a beloved companion.
