Ah, what a life was mine in al-Ḥadbāʾ! How often
How splendid was my life in al-Hadba—for how often
I came to drink from a spring whose waters flowed;
I came to drink from a flowing spring there!
وَكَمand how many تَقَنَّصتُI hunted بِهاthere جُؤذُراًan oryx calf
وَكَم تَقَنَّصتُ بِها جُؤذُراً
وَرُدتُand I sought مِنfrom عَينٍa notable بِهاthere جارِيَهa slave girl
وَرُدتُ مِن عَينٍ بِها جارِيَه
And how often I hunted a young gazelle there,
And how many an oryx calf I hunted there,
And was turned away by the eye of a maiden there.
And sought a slave girl from a notable there!
