هَجَرتُI forsook الكَرىslumber مُذsince نُمتَyou slept عَنheedless of ذِكرِremembering مَوعِديmy appointed meeting
لِئَلّاlest أَرىI see إِخلافَthe breaking of وَعدِكَyour promise فيin الغَمضِsleep
I have forsaken slumber since you slept, heedless of my appointed meeting,
Lest I see your promise broken in sleep.
فَماso … not فُزتُI gained بِالوَعدِwith the promise الَّذيwhich رُمتُI sought قَبضَهُto grasp it
وَقَدand indeed فاتَنيeluded me النَومُsleep الَّذيwhich كانَwas فيin قَبضيmy grasp
So I did not gain the promise I sought to grasp,
And sleep, which had been in my grasp, has eluded me.
