Dawn has awakened the winged creatures,

And blossoms have perfumed the bosoms of the winds,

And the soul has grown eager to drink wine.

Rise; fetch it from the palm of the woman with the sash,

For morning's herald has announced the death of night.

Rise early, for Time's eye is off its guard,

And you are heedless of your own day.

So hasten, for life's shade is shifting,

And loosen your sleep's bonds from your eye,

Which bears glances languid yet sound.

So break with sleep and embrace intoxication,

Which grants you youthful passion after youth has passed.

And seek no sobriety from its intoxication.

Cast slumber away from you, and take some wine,

That brings refreshment with the breath of the winds.

Take morning wine early among doll-like beauties,

With each full moon that outshines heaven's full moon,

Among all those sweet of speech and sweet of dusky lips.

Here are morning wine and morning—so what

is your excuse for forgoing the morning's draught?

If a pleasure comes, be worthy of it,

For fear that you may not see its like.

And if it draws away, severing its cord,

Hasten to pleasures, and mount in their pursuit

The swift steeds of revelry, full of high spirits.

Do you not see how night has swept us away,

And dawn has wiped it out with light?

Rise, then sip the cup, and leave the reproacher alone,

    Before the forenoon sun sips

The morning rainclouds' saliva from the mouths of daisies.
