مَدَحتُكَI praised you مَدحَthe praise of بَشّارِBashshar بنِson of بُردٍBurd
رَبابَةَRababah إِذwhen دَعاهُsummoned him لَهاto her اِضطِرارُnecessity
I praised you as Bashshar ibn Burd praised
Rababah, when necessity drove him to her.
أَرادَhe wished قَضاءَfulfillment of حاجَتِهِhis need لَدَيهاwith her
فَجاءَso he came بِماwith what لَهاfor her فيهِin it اِختِيارُa choice
He sought to have his need fulfilled by her,
so he offered what was to her liking.
إِذاif اِضطُرَّis compelled الشَريفُthe nobleman إِلىto كَنيفٍa privy
فَلَيسَthen there is no عَلَيهِon him إِذwhen يَأتيهِhe goes to it عارُshame
If a nobleman is compelled to use a privy,
there is no shame on him when he goes to it.
