I am dying, while you know what I have suffered.

O you, delight in whom has made me wretched!

And were it not for hopes within my heart,

with which I console it, I would not have survived.

And I marvel that I hunger so fiercely

for you, though you are sustenance for souls.

    فَجِئتُ وَذاكَ زادٌ لا يُقيتُ

    I made hope in you my provisions;

so I came, yet those provisions do not sustain.

I am wronged, yet see no point in speaking,

and nothing befits me but silence.

If one who complains to you finds no acceptance,

then silence is more eloquent than addressing him.
