إِنّيindeed, I وَإِنand although لَمdid not أَعُدكَvisit you in illness يَوماًon any day
إِنّي وَإِن لَم أَعُدكَ يَوماً
فَليso I have عَلىupon وُدِّكَyour affection اِعتِمادُreliance
فَلي عَلى وُدِّكَ اِعتِمادُ
Though one day I did not visit you,
Indeed, though I have not visited you even once,
I still place my trust in your affection.
I nonetheless rely on your affection.
وَماand not تَأَخَّرتُI stayed away عَنout of مَلالٍboredom
وَما تَأَخَّرتُ عَن مَلالٍ
بَلrather مَرَضُan ailment العَينِof the eye لاnot يُعادُis visited in illness
بَل مَرَضُ العَينِ لا يُعادُ
Nor did I hold back out of weariness;
And I did not stay away out of boredom;
rather, an ailment of the eye is not paid a sick call.
rather, someone with an eye ailment is not visited.
