وَصاحِبٍand a friend ليof mine مُصافيsincere in friendship
مِنfrom غيرِother than أَبناءِsons جِنسيmy kind
And I have a companion, true in friendship—
And a friend of mine, sincere in friendship,
an angel, not one of my own kind.
not one of my own kind:
غَرَستُI planted فيin الصَدرِthe breast مِنهُof him
وُدّاًaffection فَأَثمَرَso it bore fruit غَرسيmy planting
In his breast I planted
I planted in his breast
affection, and my planting bore fruit.
affection, and my planting bore fruit.
وَلَجتُI entered يَوماًone day فِناهُhis courtyard
لِكَيin order that أُجَدِّدَI might renew أُنسيmy joy in company
One day I entered his courtyard
One day I entered his courtyard
to renew our intimacy;
to renew my joy in his company.
فَلَمyet not أَلِجI entered غَيرَother than داريmy home
وَلَمand not أَزُرI visited غَيرَother than نَفسيmyself
yet I entered no house but my own,
Yet I entered no home but my own,
and visited none but him—myself.
and visited no one but myself.
