My soul be ransom for a newcomer

who dragged parting along by the arm.

وَهَبَ الزَمانُ لَنا اللِقا

وَهَبَ الزَمانُ لَنا اللِقا

وَدَعاهُ في اِستِرجاعِه

وَدَعاهُ في اِستِرجاعِه

Time granted us a meeting,

and called him back to reclaim it.

عانَقتُهُ عِندَ القُدو

مِ وَجَدَّ في إِسراعِه

مِ وَجَدَّ في إِسراعِه

I embraced him at his com-

ing, and he pressed on in haste.

فَهوَ اِعتِناقُ لِقائِهِ

فَهوَ اِعتِناقُ لِقائِهِ

وَهوَ اِعتِناقُ وَداعِه

وَهوَ اِعتِناقُ وَداعِه

Thus it was an embrace of meeting him,

and it was an embrace of bidding him farewell.
