لِسُخطِكَbecause of your anger جاءَتhas come سَكرَةُthe stupor المَوتِof death بِالحَقِّin truth
فَعَطفاًso show compassion وَإِحساناًand kindness عَلىto عَبدِكَyour servant الرِقِّthe enslaved one
Because of your anger, the stupor of death has truly come.
In your anger the intoxication of death came in truth,
So show compassion and kindness to your enslaved servant.
So show compassion and kindness to your helpless slave.
فَقَدfor ... may تَنقُلُreport الأَعداءُenemies حَقّاًtruth وَباطِلاًand falsehood
فَلاso let ... not يَحمِلُtake المَولىthe master الجَميعَall of it عَلىas الصِدقِtruth
For enemies may report both truth and falsehood;
For enemies may falsely accuse and slander,
so let the master not take it all as true.
The Master should not take them all as truthful.
وَكَيفَand how يَرىcontemplate إِسخاطَangering مالِكِthe owner of رِقِّهِhis bondage
بِنَجواهُthrough his private words عَبدٌa slave لَيسَdoes not يَرغَبُwish فيfor العِتقِfreedom from bondage
And how could he contemplate angering the master who owns him,
How can a slave hope to escape his Master's wrath,
through his private words—a slave who has no wish for freedom?
With whispers, when he does not wish for freedom?
فَرِفقاًso show gentleness إِلىuntil أَنthat يُبرِزَreveals الحَقُّthe truth وَجهَهُits face
بِعَبدِكُمُwith your servant فَالعَبدُfor the servant أَجدَرُmore deserving بِالرِفقِof gentleness
So be gentle, until truth reveals its face,
Gently, until the truth reveals its face,
with your servant, for the servant is more deserving of gentleness.
For your slave is most deserving of gentleness.
