كُلُّevery كَأسٍcup مِنfrom غَيرِother than; without خَمwine (first part)
كُلُّ كَأسٍ مِن غَيرِ خَم
رَةِcompletion of 'wine' مَعناكَyour meaning ليto me قَدَحa goblet
رَةِ مَعناكَ لي قَدَح
Every cup without the wine
Every cup without your wine
of your meaning is to me a mere goblet.
Is pointless debauchery;
وَسِوىand apart from ذِكرِكَremembrance of you المُفَرgladdening (first part)
وَسِوى ذِكرِكَ المُفَر
رِحِcompletion of 'gladdening' لَمnot يَنشَarise ليfor me فَرَحjoy
رِحِ لَم يَنشَ لي فَرَح
And apart from your gladdening remembrance,
Naught brings me joy
no joy has arisen for me.
Save your memory’s caprice.
أَيُّهاO الغائِبُabsent one الَّذيwho
أَيُّها الغائِبُ الَّذي
عَنfrom حِمىsanctuary القَلبِthe heart ماnot نَزَحdeparted
عَن حِمى القَلبِ ما نَزَح
O absent one who
Absent beloved, from my heart’s domain
has not departed from the heart's sanctuary,
You never once retreated—
مَنwhoever يَكُنis قَصدُهُhis aim سِواother than
مَن يَكُن قَصدُهُ سِوا
كَyou فَقَدthen indeed خابَfailed وَاِفتَضَحand was disgraced
كَ فَقَد خابَ وَاِفتَضَح
whoever's aim is other than
He who loves another
you has failed and been disgraced.
Has failed, revealed his shame.
