إِنَّ الصَديقَ يُريدُ بَسطَكَ مازِحاً

إِنَّ الصَديقَ يُريدُ بَسطَكَ مازِحاً

فَإِذا رَأى مِنكَ المَلالَةَ يُقصِرُ

فَإِذا رَأى مِنكَ المَلالَةَ يُقصِرُ

Indeed, a friend seeks to cheer you by joking;

so when he sees you grow weary, he stops.

وَتَرى العَدُوَّ إِذا تَيَقَّنَ أَنَّهُ

وَتَرى العَدُوَّ إِذا تَيَقَّنَ أَنَّهُ

يُؤذيكَ بِالمَزحِ العَنيفِ يُكثِّرُ

يُؤذيكَ بِالمَزحِ العَنيفِ يُكثِّرُ

And you see an enemy, once he is certain that he

hurts you with harsh joking, do it all the more.
