How can I endure, when you are the delight of my eye,
How can I be patient when you are the eye's delight,
yet it sees you scarcely once in a year?
Yet it does not see you even once a year?

And in what can my heart find joy when you are ab—
And what can gladden my heart if you are absent,

When you are a joy to hearts?
قَسَماًan oath بِالَّذيby Him who أَفاضَpoured forth عَلىupon طَلcountenance (word beginning)

I swear by Him who poured light upon your counte—
I swear by Him who poured upon your

Countenance the light, making it the sun's rival co-wife:
إِنَّindeed يَوماًa day أَرىI see جَمالَكَyour beauty فيهِon it
هُوَit عِنديto me فيon جَبهَةِthe brow of الدَهرِtime غُرَّهa white blaze
Indeed, any day on which I behold your beauty
Indeed, a day on which I see your beauty
is, to me, a bright blaze upon the brow of Time.
Is, to me, a white blaze on the brow of time.
أَيُّهاO you المُعرِضُthe one turning away الَّذيwho هانَseemed slight عِنديto me
تَعَبيmy toil فيهِfor his sake وَاِحتِمالُand the endurance of المَضَرَّهharm
O you who turn away, for whom I thought nothing of
O you who turn away, for whose sake I count as nothing
my weariness and the harm I bore:
My toil and my endurance of harm,
راقِبِbe mindful of اللَهَGod فيconcerning حُشاشَةِthe last spark of life نَفسيmy soul
إِنَّهُindeed He لاnot يَضيعُis lost مِثقالُthe weight of ذَرَّهan atom
Be mindful of God concerning the last spark of my life;
Be mindful of God regarding the last spark of my life;
He does not let even an atom’s weight go to waste.
For with Him, not an atom's weight is lost.
