وَلَقَدand indeed أَسيرُI walk عَلىon الضَلالِerror; straying وَلَمand did not أَقُلI say
أَينَwhere الطَريقُthe way وَإِنand even though كَرِهتُI detested ضَلاليmy straying
And indeed, I may walk astray, yet never say,
I wander lost, yet do not ask the way,
“Where is the way?” though I detest my straying.
Though lost I am, I shun my error’s sway.
وَأَعافُand I disdain تَسآلَquestioning الدَليلِthe guide تَرَفَّعاًout of pride

And I disdain questioning the guide, too proud
Too proud to question guides, I onward rave,
for my mouth to utter a word of inquiry.
Lest my lips utter, “Which the road I crave?”
