يُميتُ السُرورَ وَيُحيي الكُرَب
And a singer who scatters joy’s gathering,
A tyrant who shatters the unity of joy
Who kills happiness and brings sorrows to life,

شَداhe sang فَغَداand became كُلُّevery قَلبٍheart بِهِbecause of him
شَدا فَغَدا كُلُّ قَلبٍ بِهِ
قَليلَscant in النَصيبِfortune كَثيرَabundant in النَصَبweariness
قَليلَ النَصيبِ كَثيرَ النَصَب
He sang, and because of him every heart became
He became severe so every heart because of him
Scant in fortune, abundant in weariness.
Has little fortune and ample adversity
تَغَنّىhe sang فَعَنّىand tormented قُلوبَthe hearts of الرِفاقِthe companions

وَماسَ فَمَسَّ القُلوبَ العَطَب
He sang, and tormented his companions’ hearts,
He sang so he captivated the hearts of friends
And he swayed, and ruin touched the hearts.
And touched so he hurt longing hearts
