And a gathering of delight, whose evening darkness

Shone as though it were a radiant dawn.

    Fragrance and wine gathered there,

And strings, and boys, and dark-eyed maidens.

The senses—touch among them—took pleasure there

In five things through which joy becomes complete.

So the embrace was touch's share there,

And taste's share was cups passing round.

And for hearing, songs; and beautiful women

For our eyes; and for smell, incense.
