وَإِبرِقٍand a ewer لَهُit has نُطقٌa voice عَجيبٌwondrous
وَإِبرِقٍ لَهُ نُطقٌ عَجيبٌ
إِذاwhen ماan emphatic particle أُرسِلَتis poured out مِنهُfrom it السَلافُthe pure wine
إِذا ما أُرسِلَت مِنهُ السَلافُ
And a ewer has a wondrous voice
And lightning with wondrous speech
Whenever the pure wine is poured from it:
When arrows are loosened from it
كَفَأفاءٍlike one who stammers on f تَلَجلَجَfaltered فيin حَديثٍspeech
كَفَأفاءٍ تَلَجلَجَ في حَديثٍ
يَرَدَّدُhe repeats لَفظَهُhis utterance وَالفاءُand fāʾ (the letter f) قافُqāf (the letter q)
يَرَدَّدُ لَفظَهُ وَالفاءُ قافُ
Like a stammerer faltering in speech,
Like overflowing streams bubbling in discourse
Repeating his utterance, with qāf in place of fāʾ.
