O you whom God has singled out

for beauty of character and countenance,

and O you who, to kingship,

have the foremost claim of all:

    Look, then, at the flowers—

there is a gleam in their radiance—

and the flowers' laughter; the wine-strainer

    has tears that never cease.

    So hasten to life's delight,

and the sweetness of time and place,

and usher in wine and ease

through all seven of your days,

    from Friday to Friday,

    to Friday, to Friday.
