نَفسيmy soul الفِداءُthe ransom لِشادِنٍfor a young gazelle شاهَدتُهI saw him
نَفسي الفِداءُ لِشادِنٍ شاهَدتُه
يَومَon the day of الزِيارَةِthe visit قارِئاًreading فيin المُصحَفِthe Qur’an volume
يَومَ الزِيارَةِ قارِئاً في المُصحَفِ
May my soul be the ransom for a young gazelle I saw
My soul is the ransom for Shadin, whom I saw
on the day of the visit, reading from the Qur’an.
On visitation day, reciting from the Mus'haf,
فَتَنَhe bewitched الأَنامَhumankind بِبَهجَةٍwith radiance وَبِلَهجَةٍand with a voice
فَتَنَ الأَنامَ بِبَهجَةٍ وَبِلَهجَةٍ
تَسبيcaptivates وَتُصبيand stirs longing in كُلَّevery صَبٍّpassionate lover مُدنِفِlanguishing
تَسبي وَتُصبي كُلَّ صَبٍّ مُدنِفِ
He bewitched humankind with radiance and a voice
Charming people with joy and an accent
that captivate and stir longing in every languishing lover.
That captures and pours into every complaining heart.
فَتَلاthen he recited مَلِياًat length جُلَّmost of سورَةِthe chapter of يوسُفِJoseph
فَتَلا مَلِياً جُلَّ سورَةِ يوسُفِ
وَجَلاand he unveiled مُحَيّاًa face مِثلِlike صورَةِthe likeness of يوسُفِJoseph
وَجَلا مُحَيّاً مِثلِ صورَةِ يوسُفِ
Then he recited at length most of the chapter of Joseph,
So he read the entire surah of Yusuf smoothly,
and unveiled a face in Joseph’s likeness.
And appeared as beautiful as the image of Yusuf.
