Our souls have made their peace with deprivation,

So withholding never has any effect on us.

Until we came to regard alike those endowed with generosity

Among mankind and those whose souls fall short.

They fall short, so we feel ashamed and excuse them.

And they swear oaths, so we ask to be excused and apologize.

We offer praise and seek no payment for it,

And many a lush, spreading tree bears no fruit.
