لِلَّهِTo God (an exclamation of admiration) قاهِرَةُCairo المُعِزِّal-Mu‘izz فَإِنَّهاfor indeed it is
لِلَّهِ قاهِرَةُ المُعِزِّ فَإِنَّها

بَلَدٌ تَخَصَّصَ بِالمَسَرَّةِ وَالهَنا
How splendid is al-Mu‘izz’s Cairo, for it is
To God belongs victorious Cairo, for it is
a city set apart for joy and bliss.
A land distinguished by joy and luxury.
أَوَماAnd do you not تَرىyou see فيin كُلِّevery قُطرٍquarter مُنيَةًa heart’s desire
أَوَما تَرى في كُلِّ قُطرٍ مُنيَةً
مِنfrom جانِبَيهاits two sides وَهيَand it is مُجتَمَعُthe meeting place المُنىof desires
مِن جانِبَيها وَهيَ مُجتَمَعُ المُنى
And do you not see in every quarter a heart’s desire
Do you not see in every quarter a wish
on either side of it, while it is the meeting place of desires?
Fulfilled? It has all that the heart desires.
