زَجَرتُI divined مُرورَthe passing طَيرِكُمyour birds بِسَعدٍas auspicious
فَهَلّاthen why not قَدalready زَجَرتَyou divined بِذاكَin that way طَيريmy birds
I read good fortune in the passing of your birds;
I warned off your birds from alighting at Sa'd,
then why did you not read the same in my birds?
Why then have you not warned off my birds from that?
وَماand never خَيَّرتَyou chose أَينَwhere حَلَلتَyou settled إِلّاexcept that
وَصَلتُI joined إِلَيكَtoward you إِدلاجيmy night travel بِسَيريto my journeying
And wherever you chose to settle,
You had no choice where to alight but my night walk
I joined my night travel to my journey toward you.
Brought me to you in spite of my stead.
وَلَمand never يَبرَحceased إِلىtoward أَعداكَyour enemies شَرّيmy harm
إِذاwhenever لاfirst part of 'I met them' قَيتُهُمremainder of 'I met them' وَإِلَيكَand toward you خَيريmy good
And my harm was ever directed toward your enemies,
My troubles persist in pursuing your foes;
whenever I met them, and my good toward you.
When I face them or you my aim is the same.
وَلَمand did not تَحفِلyou pay heed بِمَنزِليto my station وَلَكِنand yet
سَتَذكُرُنيyou will remember me إِذاwhen جَرَّبتَyou have tried غَيريsomeone other than me
And you paid no heed to my station, but
Little you care where I make my abode
you will remember me when you have tried someone else.
Yet you'll think of me should another make claim.
