عاتبت محبوب قلبي حين زايلني

عاتبت محبوب قلبي حين زايلني

عن مضجعي وفصاد الفجر قد فجرا

عن مضجعي وفصاد الفجر قد فجرا

I reproached my heart’s beloved as he drew away from me,

I chided the beloved of my heart when he deserted me

From my bed, while dawn’s bloodletter had opened a vein.

From my bed as dawn broke at the crack of dawn

فقال هذا شعاع الشمس مدركنا

فقال هذا شعاع الشمس مدركنا

والشمس لا ينبغي أن تدرك القمرا

والشمس لا ينبغي أن تدرك القمرا

So he said, “This ray of the sun is overtaking us,

He said, “This is the sun’s rays reaching us”

And the sun ought not to overtake the moon.”

“The sun should not overtake the moon”
