خَدَمتُكُمُI served you فَماso not أَبقَيتُI spared جُهداًeffort
خَدَمتُكُمُ فَما أَبقَيتُ جُهداً
وَلاnor أَطمَحتُI raised بِالأَطماحِwith ambitions طَرفيmy gaze
وَلا أَطمَحتُ بِالأَطماحِ طَرفي
I served you, sparing no effort.
I served you, sparing no effort,
Nor did I raise my gaze in ambition.
Seeking no selfish gain,
وَجِئتُكُمُand I came to you بِمَعرِفَةٍwith knowledge وَعَدلٍand justice
وَجِئتُكُمُ بِمَعرِفَةٍ وَعَدلٍ
أَلَمdid … not? يَكُexist فيهِماin both of them مَنِعٌa barrier لِصَرفيto my dismissal
أَلَم يَكُ فيهِما مَنِعٌ لِصَرفي
And I came to you with knowledge and justice.
Offering you knowledge and justice—
Was there not in them both a barrier to my dismissal?
Should these not suffice to stay my hand?
