مِنof أُمورٍthings أَبدَيتُI revealed فيin حالِthe state of سُكريmy drunkenness
They told me what I do not know about myself:
They told me of things I was unaware
things I revealed in my drunken state.
Of matters I uttered while drunk

يَme (suffix) بِأَنّيthat I أَتوبُrepent عَنof كَأسِthe cup of خَمريmy wine
Then shame seized me, and I nearly—far be it from
So shame gripped me and I almost
me!—repented of my cup of wine.
Swore off my wine cup forever
ثُمَّthen راجَعتُI returned to رُشدَsound judgment عَقليof my mind وَكَفَّرand expiated

Then I returned to my mind’s sound judgment and made atonement
But reason returned and I absolved
for an oath that was the whisperings of my breast.
Myself of whispers that plagued my heart

يَmy (suffix) عَلىon account of سَكرَتيmy drunkenness يُمَهِّدُlays the groundwork for عُذريmy excuse
For if I have done wrong, my master
So if I have acted amiss, my Master
grounds my excuse in my drunkenness.
Knows my drunkenness paved excuse

That was not done consciously, but
It was not my intent, but You know
you know that I do not know.
I was unaware of all I did
