وَعَصرِby the age الرِضاcontentment إِنّيindeed I لَدَيكَwith you لَفيsurely in خُسرِloss
بِمَطليby delaying me وَقَلبيand my heart فيكَregarding you لَمdid not يَرضَbe content بِالصَبرِwith patience
By the age of contentment, I am surely at a loss with you,
In the embrace of acceptance, I am at a loss with you
for you keep me waiting, and my heart has not consented to be patient with you.
My expectation and heart in you were not content with patience
وَوَعدُكَand your promise مُحتَاجٌin need إِلىof فَسحِextension مُدَّتيmy allotted time
وَرَبُّكَand your Lord أَدرىknows best ماwhat تَخَلَّفَremains مِنof عُمريmy life
And your promise requires my allotted time to be extended,
And your promise is needful of the respite of my term
and your Lord knows best what remains of my life.
And your Lord knows best what remains of my life
وَفُرطُand excess التَقاضيpressing for payment يوهِمُleads to believe الناسَpeople أَنَّنيthat I
هَجَمتُI stormed in وَاِستَنزَعتُand I wrested away ذَلِكَthat بِالقَسرِby force
And pressing too hard for payment makes people imagine that I
And the excess of my request makes people think
stormed in and wrested that away by force.
That I attacked and extracted that by force
فَإِنso if صَدَّprevents عَنfrom إِنجازِهِits fulfillment المَنعُwithholding فَاِنعِمواthen be gracious
بَعُذرٍwith an excuse فَإِنَّfor indeed العُذرَan excuse أَسوىfairer مِنَthan الغَدرِtreachery
So if withholding prevents its fulfillment, then be gracious
So if prevention barred its fulfillment, pardon me
with an excuse, for an excuse is fairer than treachery.
For an excuse is better than betrayal
