لاnot يَحفَظُpreserves الصِحَّةَhealth أَكلُeating الفَتىthe young man
لا يَحفَظُ الصِحَّةَ أَكلُ الفَتى
طَعامَهُhis food بَينَbetween شَرابَينِtwo drinks
طَعامَهُ بَينَ شَرابَينِ
A young man does not preserve health by eating
Eating between drinks won't preserve
his food between two drinks;
a young man's health and constitution.
وَإِنَّماand only الحِكمَةُwisdom فيin شُربِهِhis drinking
وَإِنَّما الحِكمَةُ في شُربِهِ
شَرابَهُhis drink بَينَbetween طَعامَينِtwo meals
شَرابَهُ بَينَ طَعامَينِ
rather, wisdom lies in his drinking
True wisdom lies in taking a drink
his drink between two meals.
between meals, not in alternation.
