لاdo not تَكُنbe أَنتَyou وَالزَمانُand Time عَلىagainst عَبstart of 'servant'
لا تَكُن أَنتَ وَالزَمانُ عَلى عَب
دِكَend of 'servant' + your بِالبَينِthrough separation وَالجَفاand estrangement أَعواناallies
دِكَ بِالبَينِ وَالجَفا أَعوانا
Let not you and Time be, against your servant,
Do not let yourself and time with separation and aloofness assist
allies in separation and estrangement.
In oppressing you, for he is pleased with a glance at your letters when
فَهوَfor he راضٍcontent بِلَمحِwith a glimpse of كُتبِكَyour letters إِذsince لَمdid not
فَهوَ راضٍ بِلَمحِ كُتبِكَ إِذ لَم
يَسمَحِallow الدَهرُTime أَنto يَراكَhe sees you عِياناin person
يَسمَحِ الدَهرُ أَن يَراكَ عِيانا
For he is content with a glimpse of your letters, since
Fate did not permit seeing you in person
