تعاون على الخيرات تظفر ولا تكُن

تعاون على الخيرات تظفر ولا تكُن

على الإثم والعُدوَانِ مِمَّن يُعَاوِنُ

على الإثم والعُدوَانِ مِمَّن يُعَاوِنُ

Cooperate in good deeds and you will succeed; do not be

Cooperate in doing good, you will succeed; do not be

Among those who aid in sin and aggression.

Among those who cooperate in sin and aggression.

وداهِن إِذا ما خِفتَ يَوماً مُسَلَّطا

وداهِن إِذا ما خِفتَ يَوماً مُسَلَّطا

عليك ولا يَحتالُ من لا يُدَاهِنُ

عليك ولا يَحتالُ من لا يُدَاهِنُ

And flatter if one day you fear someone in authority

Flatter when you fear a day of being overpowered

Over you; he who does not flatter devises no stratagem.

Upon you; he who does not flatter has no tricks.

ولا تكُ ذا لَونين يُبدي بَشاشَةً

ولا تكُ ذا لَونين يُبدي بَشاشَةً

وفي صَدرِه ضَبٌّ من الغِلِّ كامِنُ

وفي صَدرِه ضَبٌّ من الغِلِّ كامِنُ

And do not be a man of two colors, displaying cheerfulness,

Do not be two-faced, showing joy,

While in his breast a lizard of rancor lies hidden.

while rancor sits concealed in his breast.
