فَرَدَّتso she left أَعيُنَeyes الرُّقَبَاءِthe watchers حَيرَىbewildered
فَرَدَّت أَعيُنَ الرُّقَبَاءِ حَيرَى
بِألحَاظٍwith glances كَأَلحَاظِlike the glances of المَرُوعِthe frightened one
بِألحَاظٍ كَأَلحَاظِ المَرُوعِ
So she left the watchers’ eyes bewildered,
The guards' eyes darted about in confusion
with glances like those of one stricken with fear.
With glances like those of the frightened
وَلَمand did not يَكُbe فِيَّin me إِذwhen رَحَلُواthey departed سِوَىexcept أَنthat
وَلَم يَكُ فِيَّ إِذ رَحَلُوا سِوَى أَن
أُغَازلُهُمI woo them بِأطرَافِwith the edges of الدُّمُوعِthe tears
أُغَازلُهُم بِأطرَافِ الدُّمُوعِ
And when they departed, I had nothing in me but
And when they left, there was nothing in me but
to woo them with the edges of tears.
That I flirted with them with the edges of tears
