Look at my exquisite engraving:
Look at my wonderful engraving
It makes you forget spring's blossom.
It will distract you from the spring bloom
لَوif جُنِيَwere harvested البَحرُthe sea مِنfrom رِياضٍgardens
كانَit would be جَنىthe harvest of رَوضِيَmy garden المَريعِthe lush
Were the sea harvested from gardens,
If the sea was picked from gardens
It would be the harvest of my lush garden.
It would be the harvest of my fertile meadow
سَقانِيَmay He give me drink اللَهُGod دَمعَthe tears of عَينيmy eye
وَلاand may not وَقانيHe shield me from جَوىthe burning anguish of ضُلُوعيmy ribs
May God give me my eye's tears to drink,
God has watered me with the tears of my eyes
And may He not spare me the burning anguish in my ribs.
And did not protect me from the heat of my chest
فَماso not أُباليI care about شَقاءَthe suffering of بَعضيpart of me
إِذاwhen تَشَقَّيتُI suffer فيin جَميعيmy entirety
So I care not for the suffering of part of me,
So I do not care about some of my misery
When I suffer in my entirety.
When I suffer in all of me
كَيفَhow تَرانيyou see me وُقِيتَmay you be spared ماwhat بيis in me
أَلَستُam I not مِنamong أَعجَبِthe most wondrous الرُبوعِabodes
How do you find me—may you be spared what ails me?
How do you see me when I am protected from what is in me
Am I not among the most wondrous abodes?
Am I not the most wondrous of meadows
