A once-inhabited dwelling of your youth has fallen desolate.
A mightier place than your youth has crumbled,
So I stayed, lamenting a fading trace of it.
So I established a monument there, sound and safe,
مَثَلَappeared العِذارُthe sideburns هُناكَthere نُؤياًa trench around a tent داثِراًworn away
وَاِسوَدَّتِand turned black الخيلانُthe moles فيهِin it أَثافِياpot-supporting hearthstones
The sideburns appeared there like a worn-away tent trench,
The virgin's likeness stands there still, though fallen,
And the moles in it turned black like hearthstones.
And the steeds darkening amidst it gloomy and desolate.
