لَقَد صَدَقَت مِنّي العِيافَةُ وَالزَجرُ
I saw a good omen in the knife when you sent it.
I hoped for tranquility when I sent the dagger
Indeed, my bird-augury and divination proved true.
Indeed, the omens and warnings spoke true of me
فَكانَthus came مِنَfrom السكّينِthe knife سُكناكَyour dwelling فيin الحَشاthe heart
فَكانَ مِنَ السكّينِ سُكناكَ في الحَشا
وَكانَand came مِنَfrom القَطعِcutting القَطِيعَةُestrangement وَالهَجرُand abandonment
وَكانَ مِنَ القَطعِ القَطِيعَةُ وَالهَجرُ
Thus, from the knife came your dwelling in my heart,
Yet the dagger brought you rest in the grave
And from cutting came estrangement and abandonment.
And from the cut came separation and estrangement
