ماwhat وَجَدُواthey found عِنْدَamid الْتِكاكِcrowding together الدَوْسِtrampling
ما وَجَدُوا عِنْدَ الْتِكاكِ الدَوْسِ
جُمِعَwas gathered مِنْfrom مَباركٍresting places دِرْهَوْسِa mighty lion
جُمِعَ مِنْ مَباركٍ دِرْهَوْسِ
What they found amid the press of trampling
They did not find, when tested, weakness
Was gathered from the resting places of a mighty lion,
In one blessed with ample means,
عَبْلِthick الشَوَىthe limbs خُنابِسٍhulking خِنَّوْسِa lion
عَبْلِ الشَوَى خُنابِسٍ خِنَّوْسِ
ذِيpossessing هامَةٍa head وَعُنُقٍand a neck عِلْطَوْسِmassive
ذِي هامَةٍ وَعُنُقٍ عِلْطَوْسِ
Thick-limbed, a hulking lion,
Abl Al-Shawwa, a beetle, grasshopper,
With a head and a massive neck.
With a tuft and neck most proud.
