غاوٍa wayward man عَصَىdisobeyed مُرْشِدَهُhis guide وَقَدْthough already نَهَىhe forbade
غاوٍ عَصَى مُرْشِدَهُ وَقَدْ نَهَى
صَتَّهْتُهُI rebuked him وَلَمْand not يَكُنْhe was مُصَتَّهَاdeterred
صَتَّهْتُهُ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مُصَتَّهَا
Wayward, he disobeyed his guide, though the guide had warned him;
A wayward man disobeyed his guide, though his guide had bidden him desist.
I tried to curb him, but he was not to be curbed.
I rebuked him, but he was not deterred.
