O Hakam, son of al-Mundhir, son of al-Jarud!

O Hakam son of Mundhir son of Al-Jarud

You are the generous one, son of the praised generous one.

You are the generous son of the praised generous one

نَبَتَّ في الجَوْدِ وَفِي نَبْتِ الجُودْ

نَبَتَّ في الجَوْدِ وَفِي نَبْتِ الجُودْ

وَالعُودُ قَدْ يَنْبُتُ فِي أَصْلِ العُودْ

وَالعُودُ قَدْ يَنْبُتُ فِي أَصْلِ العُودْ

You grew in abundant rain and among the shoots of generosity.

You grew up with generosity and with the growth of generosity

And a shoot may grow from the root of a tree.

And wood can grow from wood

سُرادِقُ المَجْدِ عَلَيْكَ مَمْدُودْ

سُرادِقُ المَجْدِ عَلَيْكَ مَمْدُودْ

أَنَّى وَبَعْضُ المُفْتِنِينَ داوُودْ

أَنَّى وَبَعْضُ المُفْتِنِينَ داوُودْ

The canopy of glory is spread over you.

How so, when David was among those put to the test,

When some of the deceivers are plotting

وَيُوسُفٌ كادَتْ بِهِ المَكايِيدْ

وَيُوسُفٌ كادَتْ بِهِ المَكايِيدْ

And Joseph—the plots conspired against him?

And Joseph was almost trapped by the schemes
