Indeed, last Ramadan there came
Last Ramadan there came
a girl in her loose-fitting tunic,
A girl in flowing robes -
تُقَظِّعُshe breaks up الحَدِيثَthe talk بِالإِيْماضِwith flashing glances
أَبَيْضُfairer مِنْthan أُخْتِthe sister of بَنِيthe sons of إِباضِIbad
punctuating her talk with flashing glances,
She hints at things with a sly wink.
fairer than the sister of Banu Ibad.
Whiter than a sister of the Ibadhi clan,
ياoh لَيْتَنِيwould that I مِثْلَكِlike you فيin البَياضِwhiteness
مِثْلَlike الغَزالِthe gazelle زِينwas adorned بِالخَضاضِwith white beads
Oh, would that I were as fair as you!
Would that I were like you in fairness!
Like a gazelle adorned with white beads,
Like a gazelle adorned with youthfulness,
قَبّاءُslender-waisted ذاتُhaving كَفَلٍa rump رَضْراضِfleshy

slender-waisted, with a fleshy rump.
A slender-waisted beauty with soft cheeks -
When they resolve to move gently as they rise,
When she decides to set out on a howdah
جاذَبْنَthey tug بِالأَصْلابِwith the backbones وَالأَنواضِand the haunches
they strain with their backs and haunches.
She draws men with her figure and swaying gait.
