Come, let us make a pact, O brothers,
Come, let us unite, O brothers
By a binding covenant and by oaths,
With the determination of covenant and oath
أنthat نبذلَwe offer صِدْقاًsincerity للأوطانْto the homelands
أن نبذلَ صِدْقاً للأوطانْ
وبيمْنand under the good auspices of سعيدٍSa'id نحنwe نصانْare protected
وبيمْن سعيدٍ نحن نصانْ
To offer sincere devotion to our homelands;
That we spend sincerely for the homelands
And under Sa'id's good auspices we are protected.
And with good augury we get protection
والفضلand merit يجلis too great عنfor النكرانdenial
والفضل يجل عن النكران
للحربِto war هلمُّواcome ياO شجعانbrave men
للحربِ هلمُّوا يا شجعان
And merit is too great to be denied.
And excellence is too evident for denial
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!
حبُّlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانْfaith
حبُّ الأوطان من الإيمانْ
هياcome اجتهدواstrive هياcome اجتهدواstrive
هيا اجتهدوا هيا اجتهدوا
Love of one's homeland is part of faith.

Come, strive; come, strive!

والحرand the free man ينجزُfulfills ماwhat يَعِدhe promises
والحر ينجزُ ما يَعِد
وجميعُand all الناسِthe people لكمfor you شهدُواhave borne witness
وجميعُ الناسِ لكم شهدُوا
And the free man fulfills what he promises.
And the freeman fulfills what he promises
And all the people have borne witness for you
And all people witnessed for you
بشجاعتكمto your courage عندat الميدانthe battlefield
بشجاعتكم عند الميدان

للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
To your courage on the battlefield.
With your courage at the battlefield

وبيُمنand under the good auspices of سَعيدٍSa'id نحنُwe نُصانare protected
وبيُمن سَعيدٍ نحنُ نُصان
Your sword is the faith-community's strong arm.
For the nation, your sword is a supporter
And under Sa'id's good auspices we are protected.
And with good augury we get protection

للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبُّlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حبُّ الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!

فلكمso yours is قِدمٌancient precedence ولكمand yours is قَدمُa foremost place
فلكم قِدمٌ ولكم قَدمُ
فيin الفضلexcellence وضدكمand your foe عدمُnothingness
في الفضل وضدكم عدمُ
Yours is ancient precedence, and yours a foremost place
For you is precedence and for you is advance
In excellence; your foe is nothing.
In merit, while against you is absence
ومعالمكمand your landmarks لاnot تنهدمcrumble
ومعالمكم لا تنهدم
بالتقوىthrough piety تأسيسُthe founding of البنيانthe structure
بالتقوى تأسيسُ البنيان
And your landmarks do not crumble;
And your landmarks do not crumble
The structure is founded upon piety.
With piety is the building established

لحرب هلمُّوا يا شجعان

أنتمyou كُرماgenerous men أنتمyou نُبلاnoble men
أنتم كُرما أنتم نُبلا
تحمُونyou protect الجيرةَthe neighbors والنُّزُلاand the guests
تحمُون الجيرةَ والنُّزُلا
You are generous; you are noble.
You are generous, you are noble
You protect the neighbors and the guests.
Protecting the neighbor and the lodging
ولكمand you have شرفٌhonor فيin الكونِthe world علاhas risen high
ولكم شرفٌ في الكونِ علا
قدْراًin stature لاnot يمحوهeffaces it الملوانday and night
قدْراً لا يمحوه الملوان
Yours is honor, exalted in the world,
And you have prominent honor in the universe
In stature, which day and night cannot efface.
A rank time does not erase

حبُّ الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!

فنزالِso, to battle! نزالِto battle! علىagainst الأعْداthe foes
فنزالِ نزالِ على الأعْدا
لاdo not ترعوْاobserve فيtoward الأعْداthe foes عَهداa covenant
لا ترعوْا في الأعْدا عَهدا
To battle, to battle against the foes!
So attack, attack the enemies
Honor no covenant with the foes.
Do not observe any covenant with the enemies
فالوقتُfor time أتاحhas granted لكمyou سعداgood fortune
فالوقتُ أتاح لكم سعدا
وأذاقهمand made them taste طعمَthe taste of الخسرانdefeat
وأذاقهم طعمَ الخسران
For time has granted you good fortune
For time has afforded you prosperity
And made them taste defeat.
And made them taste the flavor of loss

حبُّ الأوطان من الإيمان

هياcome انتظمواform ranks وارْقوْاand ascend أوْجاa summit
هيا انتظموا وارْقوْا أوْجا

Come, form ranks and ascend to the heights!
Come, organize and surge, battalion after battalion
Come, charge in, troop after troop!
Come breach, wave after wave
هياcome التحمواengage in close combat عندamid الهيجاbattle
هيا التحموا عند الهيجا
هيّاcome هياcome سُونكِيbayonets دورانat the ready! (military command)
هيّا هيا سُونكِي دوران
Come, engage in close combat amid battle!
Come unite during the turmoil
Come, come—bayonets at the ready!
Come, come swirling your spears!

للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبُّlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حبُّ الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!

لاdo not تعطواgive الأعْداthe foes مِقْوَدكمyour reins
لا تعطوا الأعْدا مِقْوَدكم
لاdo not ترضوْاconsent أنthat تستبعدكمcast you aside
لا ترضوْا أن تستبعدكم
Do not give the foes your reins.
Do not let the enemies take your reins
Do not consent to their casting you aside.
Do not accept to be distanced
واللهُand God تعالىexalted is He أسعدكمhas favored you
واللهُ تعالى أسعدكم
بقتالٍthrough fighting وهزمand defeating ذويthose possessing الطغيانtyranny
بقتالٍ وهزم ذوي الطغيان
And God, exalted is He, has favored you
And Allah has made you prosperous
Through combat and the defeat of tyrants.
With fighting and defeating the tyrants

حبُّ الأوطان من الإيمان

بصوارمكمwith your keen swords وعواليكمand your lofty spears

With your swords and with your heights
And your glories and your high attainments,
And your glories and your sublimities
وبيُمنand under the good auspices of سعيدSa'id نحنwe نصانare protected
وبيُمن سعيد نحن نصان
خوضواwade بدماin the blood of أهلthe people of العدوانaggression
خوضوا بدما أهل العدوان
And under Sa'id's good auspices we are protected.
And with good augury we are protected
Wade through the blood of the aggressors.
Wade with the blood of the aggressors

هولُthe terror of الأعداءthe enemies طلائعكمyour vanguards
هولُ الأعداء طلائعكم
وبنادقكمand your muskets ولوامعكمand your flashing weapons
وبنادقكم ولوامعكم
Your vanguards are the terror of the enemies,
The awe of the enemies are your vanguards
And your muskets and your flashing weapons;
And your rifles and your shining ones
وعذابُand the torment of الهونhumiliation مدافعكمyour cannons
وعذابُ الهون مدافعكم
وصواعقكمand your thunderbolts رمُىvolleys of الأهوانabasements
وصواعقكم رمُى الأهوان
And your cannons are the torment of humiliation,
And the torment of cannons are your supporters
And your thunderbolts are volleys of abasement.
And your lightnings, a hit for the weak

حب الأوطان من الإيمان

قصباتُprize-reeds السبقِprecedence بهاwith them فُزتمyou have won
قصباتُ السبقِ بها فُزتم
وسهامُand shares of المغنمِthe spoils قدalready حُزتمyou have secured
وسهامُ المغنمِ قد حُزتم
The prize-reeds of victory—you have won them,
The arrows of precedence, with it you have won
And shares of the spoils you have already secured,
And the arrows of war booty, you have taken
وحظوظُand portions of الشهرةِrenown أحرزتمyou have gained
وحظوظُ الشهرةِ أحرزتم
وبهاand through them امتزتمyou distinguished yourselves بينamong الأقرانpeers
وبها امتزتم بين الأقران
And portions of renown you have gained,
And the fortunes of fame, you have achieved
And through these distinguished yourselves among your peers.
And with it you have excelled amongst peers

قسماًI swear بجميلby the beauty of شروعكمyour undertaking
قسماً بجميل شروعكم
فيin حفظِguarding وصونand preserving ربوعكمyour lands
في حفظِ وصون ربوعكم
I swear by the beauty of your undertaking
I swear by the beauty of your determination
To guard and preserve your lands,
In keeping and protecting your lands
والنصرَand victory حليفُthe ally of دروعِكمyour armor
والنصرَ حليفُ دروعِكم
وبيمنand under the good auspices of سعيدSa'id نحنwe نصانare protected
وبيمن سعيد نحن نصان
And victory is the ally of your armor;
And victory is an ally of your shields
And under Sa'id's good auspices we are protected.
And with good augury we are protected

هياcome اشتبكواjoin battle هياcome اشتبكواjoin battle
هيا اشتبكوا هيا اشتبكوا
وغبارُand the dust of المعْركbattle محتبكُtightly interwoven
وغبارُ المعْرك محتبكُ
Come, join battle; come, join battle!
Come interlock, come interlock
And the dust of battle is tightly interwoven.
And the dust of battle is intertwined
والعسجدُand gold هلاis it not? ينسبكsmelted
والعسجدُ هلا ينسبك
إلاonly بمقاومةby withstanding النيرانthe flames
إلا بمقاومة النيران
And is gold not smelted
And the enemy, how can it creep
Only by withstanding the flames?
Except with confronting the fires

وطولُand the length of الحربwar لهاfor it طربُdelight
وطولُ الحرب لها طربُ
وإليهاand to it الناجبُthe noble man ينجذبis drawn
وإليها الناجبُ ينجذب
And prolonged warfare has its own delight,
And the length of war has an enjoyment
And the noble man is drawn to it;
And the obligated is attracted to it
والضدand the foe لديهماbefore them both مضطربagitated
والضد لديهما مضطرب
وحشاهand his heart يصيرbecomes بهاbecause of it ولهانfrantic
وحشاه يصير بها ولهان
And the foe is agitated before them both,
And the opponent in it is perturbed
And his heart grows frantic because of it.
And its commotion becomes confused and feeble

حبlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حب الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!

رؤساؤكمyour commanders همthey أُسْدlions شَرىShara
رؤساؤكم هم أُسْد شَرى
كلeach منهمof them للمجدfor glory شَرىhas sold himself
كل منهم للمجد شَرى
Your commanders are lions of Shara;
Your leaders, they are lions of war
Each of them has sold himself for glory.
Each of them is for glory, he bought it
بمزاياهمthrough their merits فاقواthey surpassed البشراhumankind
بمزاياهم فاقوا البشرا
فهمfor they are الأمَراthe princes وهمand they are الأعيانthe leading men
فهم الأمَرا وهم الأعيان
Through their merits they surpassed humankind;
With their merits, they surpassed mankind
For they are the princes and the leading men.
For they are the nobles and the notables

حب الأوطان من الإيمان

فبنوfor the sons of مصرEgypt طُراًall نُجباnoble men
فبنو مصر طُراً نُجبا
ونجيبand the noble man of القومthe people الضيمَoppression أبىhas rejected
ونجيب القوم الضيمَ أبى
For all the sons of Egypt are noble,
So the Egyptians are a noble breed
And the noble man of a people rejects oppression.
And the noble people, harm refused
يُبدونthey display لدىamid الهيجاbattle العجباmarvels
يُبدون لدى الهيجا العجبا
أتُرىcan there be seen بينamong الأنجابthe noble men جبانa coward
أتُرى بين الأنجاب جبان
They display marvels amid battle;
They show wonder at the turmoil
Can a coward be found among the noble?
Can cowardice be seen amongst the progeny?

للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حب الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!

فيin السوْمthe bidding ثمنٌa price غالِhigh
في السوْم ثمنٌ غالِ
فيin تاريخthe history of الزمنtime الخاليbygone
في تاريخ الزمن الخالي
In the bidding, their price is high
In valor, a precious price
In the history of bygone times;
In history of the past time
ونظامand the order of الملكkingship لهمfor them عالِexalted
ونظام الملك لهم عالِ
ولهand of it ذكرٌmention بعدafter الطوفانthe Flood
وله ذكرٌ بعد الطوفان
And their order of kingship is exalted,
And the King's system is lofty for them
And there is mention of it after the Flood.
And it has mention after the deluge

للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبُّlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حبُّ الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!
Love of one's homeland is part of faith.
Love of homelands is of faith
وألوفُand thousands of قرونٍcenturies بعدُthereafter خلتْpassed
وألوفُ قرونٍ بعدُ خلتْ
فيunder حكمthe rule of سواهاone other than it ماnot دخلتit entered
في حكم سواها ما دخلت
And thousands of centuries passed thereafter;
And thousands of past eras
It did not come under another's rule,
In whose rule it did not engage
وبأسْرand with the captivity by الغيرothers لهاof it بخلتْit was unwilling to yield
وبأسْر الغير لها بخلتْ
فمنso from الأبناthe sons كانwas السلطانthe sovereign
فمن الأبنا كان السلطان
And would not yield to captivity by others;
And it was stingy for others to take it
So the sovereign came from its own sons.
So from its people came the Sultan

للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حب الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!

فيin ماضيthe past of الدهرtime قدْindeed بقيتit remained
في ماضي الدهر قدْ بقيت
تختاًa throne لملوكٍfor kings قدalready وُقيتْit had been protected
تختاً لملوكٍ قد وُقيتْ
In ages past it remained
In the past of time it remained
A throne for kings; it had been shielded
A throne for kings it protected
شَرَّةthe malice of الأغرابstrangers وقدand indeed سُقيتit was given to drink
شَرَّة الأغراب وقد سُقيت
أكوابَcups of طِلاحبِّthe wine of love (fused words) العمرانcivilization
أكوابَ طِلاحبِّ العمران
From the malice of strangers, and given to drink
The evil of strangers and it was quenched
Cups of the wine of love for civilization.
The cups of life's vineyards
للحربto war هلمواcome ياO شجعانbrave men
للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حب الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!
Love of one's homeland is part of faith.
Love of homelands is of faith
قدalready حازتit attained منزلةًa rank عُلياlofty
قد حازت منزلةً عُليا
وبذاand thus دُعيتْit was called أمَّthe Mother of الدنياthe World
وبذا دُعيتْ أمَّ الدنيا
It attained a lofty rank,
It has attained a supernal status
And thus was called the Mother of the World;
And thus it was called mother of the world
وبصيتٍand in renown الموتىthe dead والأحياand the living
وبصيتٍ الموتى والأحيا
فاقتْit surpassed مجداًin glory كلall البلدانlands
فاقتْ مجداً كل البلدان
And in renown among the dead and the living
And in repute of the dead and alive
It surpassed all lands in glory.
It surpassed in glory all the countries

حبlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حب الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!

فيto ذروتهاits summit العلياhighest صعدتit ascended
في ذروتها العليا صعدت
مصرEgypt وعواديand the ravages of الدهرtime عدتassailed
مصر وعوادي الدهر عدت
To its highest summit rose
At its highest peak ascended
Egypt, and the ravages of time assailed it;
Egypt, and the times of fate it counted
فاحتلتso it was occupied قهراًby force وابتعدتand moved away
فاحتلت قهراً وابتعدت
دهراًfor an age عنfrom ميزانthe scales of الرجحانpreeminence
دهراً عن ميزان الرجحان
So it was occupied by force and fell away
So it dominated by conquest and parted
For an age from the scales of preeminence.
An era from the scale's weighting

للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حب الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!
Love of one's homeland is part of faith.
Love of homelands is of faith
وتولىand assumed إمرتهاits rule الغُرَباthe foreigners
وتولى إمرتها الغُرَبا
أعجاماًnon-Arabs كانواthey were أوor عَرباArabs
أعجاماً كانوا أو عَربا
And foreigners assumed its rule,
And the Westerners took over its command
Whether they were non-Arabs or Arabs;
Be they foreigners or Arabs
والحالُand the plight يناديcries out واحرباalas, my ruin!
والحالُ ينادي واحربا
والفرصةُand opportunity تدركis grasped بالأزمانin the course of time
والفرصةُ تدرك بالأزمان
And its plight cried out, 'Alas, my ruin!'
And the state calls fight! Fight!
And opportunity is grasped in the course of time.
And the opportunity is attained in times

للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حب الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!
Love of one's homeland is part of faith.

ربُّthe Lord of الخيراتِblessings أرادwilled لهاfor it
ربُّ الخيراتِ أراد لها
خيراًsomething better منthan ذلكthat بدّلهاHe changed its lot
خيراً من ذلك بدّلها
The Lord of blessings willed for it
The Lord of favors wanted for it
Something better than that, and changed its lot,
Better than this, He changed it
بأكيدwith the firmness of العهدthe covenant وبالإيمانand through faith
بأكيد العهد وبالإيمان
وبيمنand under the good auspices of سعيدSa'id نحنwe نصانare protected
وبيمن سعيد نحن نصان
By a binding covenant and through faith.
With determination of covenant and faith
And under Sa'id's good auspices we are protected.
And with good augury we get protection
للحربto war هلمواcome ياO شجعانbrave men
للحرب هلموا يا شجعان
حبlove الأوطانhomelands منpart of الإيمانfaith
حب الأوطان من الإيمان
Come to war, O brave men!
To war, come O valiant!
Love of one's homeland is part of faith.
Love of homelands is of faith
وبنوكِand your sons الآنnow قدalready افتخرواhave taken pride
وبنوكِ الآن قد افتخروا
بوقائعَin battles عُظمىmighty وانتصرواand have triumphed
بوقائعَ عُظمى وانتصروا
And your sons now take pride
And your sons now have boasted
In mighty battles, and have triumphed;
With grand accomplishments and gained victory
ربحواthey gained فيin الغرْوِthe campaign (uncertain reading) وماand did not خسرواlose
ربحوا في الغرْوِ وما خسروا
والأعداءand the enemies عادواreturned بالخذلانin defeat
والأعداء عادوا بالخذلان
They gained in the campaign and suffered no loss,
Won in battle and did not lose
And the enemies returned in defeat.
And the enemies returned with disappointment

Come to war, O brave men!
