Sol 6.1

  1. يا منيةَ القلب الكسير

    وجنة الروح الحزينه

    O desire of the broken heart,

    And paradise of the sorrowful soul,

  2. يا من نسيت هوى الصبا

    وطويته لا تذكرينه

    O you who have forgotten the love of youth,

    And folded it away, no longer remembering it.

  3. حلم الأحلام الكرى

    ولي وأعقبنا شجونه

    A dream among the dreams of slumber

    Has passed, leaving us its sorrows.

  4. أيام نلهو سادرين مع

    الصبا نحدوا جنونه

    Days when we played heedlessly with

    Youth, spurring on its madness.

  5. تغدوا ونمرح لا رقيب على

    الهوى نخشى ظنونه

    You would go out, and we would frolic, with no watcher over

    Love—no suspicions of his for us to fear.

  6. مالي أراك نسيته

    وهجرته لا ترحمينه

    Why do I see that you have forgotten him,

    And forsaken him, showing him no mercy?

  7. أنسيته حقا وهل ينسى

    خدين صبا خدينه

    Have you truly forgotten him? And can

    A companion of youth forget his companion?

  8. تتجاهلين إذا رآك ولا أظنك

    تجهلينه

    You feign ignorance when he sees you, yet I do not think

    You fail to recognize him.

  9. اليوم أضناه السقام

    وغضن الدهر جبينه

    Today sickness has wasted him away,

    And time has furrowed his brow.

  10. فإذا مررت به يهيم جوى

    بأطراف المدينة

    So when you pass him as he wanders in love's anguish,

    On the outskirts of the city,

  11. فستلمحين فتى أضرّ به

    الهوى يخفي شجونه

    You will glimpse a young man stricken by

    Love, hiding his sorrows.

  12. يلقاك مختلج الخطى

    أدمى بادمعه جفونه

    He meets you with faltering steps;

    He has bloodied his eyelids with his tears.

  13. نضوا يؤرّقه الهزالُ

    فلا أظنّك تعرفينه

    A wasted man, kept sleepless by emaciation—

    So I do not think you would recognize him.

  14. فارثي لقلب مولع

    كان الوفاء إليك دينَه

    So pity a heart consumed with love,

    Whose creed was faithfulness to you.
