سلبتstole محاسنُthe charms of وجهكyour face الأرواحَاthe souls
وغداand became لهاfor them قتلُthe killing of النفوسthe souls مُباحَاlawful
The charms of your face have stolen souls,
Your beautiful face has stolen souls away,
And killing souls has become lawful for them.
And slaying hearts is now allowed, they say.
وبدَتand appeared طلائعُthe vanguards of مُقلتَيكyour two eyes فأثخنَتthen grievously wounded
بسيوفهاwith their swords أهلَthe people of الغَرَامِpassionate love جِرَاحَاwounds
And the vanguards of your two eyes appeared, inflicting
The glances of your eyes bring wounds that gush,
With their swords deep wounds upon those in love.
On lovers' hearts their swords inflict the crush.
فَكأنّماso it is as though العشاقthe lovers آلthe house of أمَيّةٍUmayya
وكأنّand as though طرفكyour gaze أصبَحَbecame السفّاحاal-Saffah (the blood-shedder)
So it is as though the lovers were the house of Umayya,
The lovers seem like victims of Umayyad,
And as though your gaze had become al-Saffah.
Your eyes the butcher who's gone mad.
